Background

During the 2024 Taichung Bank Formosa Women’s Volleyball Club Invitational Tournament (held from September 9 to September 12, 2024), the Chinese Taipei Volleyball Association (CTVBA) partnered with Spot for the first time. This collaboration aimed to integrate Spot’s innovative AI technology into the real-time editing and sharing of match content, with the goal of increasing exposure on social media platforms, particularly Instagram Reels and YouTube.

Challenge

Before using Spot, CTVBA’s social media exposure was relatively low. For example, YouTube live events before September 2024 averaged only 7,233 views, which fell short of expectations. As the tournament progressed, CTVBA needed an effective solution to boost audience engagement, particularly in their social media performance.

Solution

CTVBA decided to collaborate with Spot, utilizing Spot’s AI-powered real-time editing capabilities to enhance social media coverage of the tournament. With Spot, CTVBA was able to quickly capture and share key moments from the matches, publishing them on major social media platforms like Instagram Reels and YouTube.

Results

After the collaboration, CTVBA saw significant growth in viewership on both Instagram and YouTube:

  • Instagram Reels: From June 2024 to September 13, 2024, Instagram Reels views increased from 459,469 in August to 1,553,394 in September, marking a 239% growth. Notably, the views in September alone surpassed the total views from the previous three months combined, highlighting the effectiveness of Spot’s real-time editing technology in boosting audience engagement
  • YouTube: Across the 9 live events, YouTube achieved a total of 1,606,000 views, with an average of 178,444 views per match. This is a significant increase compared to the average of 7,233 views per event across 135 events in the previous four months. Additionally, the YouTube channel’s subscriber count grew from 69,000 to 91,000 during the tournament, representing a 31.88% increase, further demonstrating the impact of Spot’s technology.

Conclusion

Spot’s technology significantly enhanced CTVBA’s influence on social media platforms, particularly in terms of viewership on Instagram and YouTube. This partnership demonstrated the potential of AI technology in sports events, not only boosting the visibility of the tournament but also providing valuable insights and experiences for future event operations. Through this successful collaboration, CTVBA achieved its goal of increasing social media engagement, setting a benchmark for other sports associations to consider similar partnerships with Spot.
